Problem with links to YouTube videos

Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, is there a workaround?

When a YouTube video is posted at DU, and I click on it, I get a screen saying I must sign in to ensure that I’m not a bot. But there is no path to sign in. Clicking again takes me to YouTube, but not to the video that was posted.

TIA.

1. It is likely happening because you are using a VPN.

If you are using one, turn it off temporarily and refresh the screen. It should load. And then you get to decide whether or not turning the VPN off when you are on DU is less hassle, or just clicking through to watch the video on the youtube site. Both will require extra steps.

think I’m using a VPN, I’m not real sure what exactly that is. I get the “Prove you are not a bot” a lot, not just here either. Watching the video on YouTube is an option, but then you get to watch the YouTube tube ads as well. Makes me wonder if the whole point of this is to direct you to YouTube for the ad clicks?

8. I would bet money you have a setting that enables a VPN or at least VPN access...

or you have a pop-up blocker enabled (less likely). Why do I say that? Because this exact thing was happening to me and that was the cure (turn off the VPN when I was on DU)

I have no time to work with you to determine as I'm dressing to do a double ER shift, sorry, but surely some other techie people here can find out what operating system you are using and work through it with you. Good luck

Are you having a similar problem? Maybe lay out exactly what operating system you are using and what device, what security or ad-blocking apps or software you have running, etc. and maybe someone here can work with you. Good luck.

There was an earlier thread about it with some possible reasons but most I didn’t understand.

Do not use the Safari browser, try using Brave browser.

14. Spooky, try this. On your iphone at the left side of any url you are on you will see two A's

click on that and scroll down to "Turn Off Content Blockers" and toggle it. Then go back to your embedded youtube BUT instead of hitting the big center arrow, click the Youtube arrow on the lower right of the video. Hit it lightly or your IPhone might think you are trying to copy it. It will take you to you tube and should start playing. I just did this on the video in this thread on my iPhone and it worked.

But YouTube insists that I am. In my opinion, they should have to prove their accusation, but I guess the world doesn’t work that way anymore.
The only workaround I have found is to sign out of YouTube. I can usually watch several vids before they block me. If I ignore the vid they block, the next several usually play before they block again.
The downside is that signing out of YouTube also signs me out of my email, I don’t know why. So if I want to get into email after YouTube videos, I have to log in.

incognito then turn it off, back to DU and sign in and it works… for awhile.
