It was Kubrick's last film, so I hold it in some regard. Xavier Breath 2 hrs ago #2

I watched it to see the masks a friend had created and sourced for it. But otherwise I agree with the above comments. fierywoman 2 hrs ago #4

Having said that, it was not his best work. The problem lies with the absolute zero chemistry between Cruise and Kidman. When the story is focused on Cruise and his foray into the masked orgy shenanigans, it works very well. There is suspense and an interesting story. When it focuses on them and their marital dynamics, a large part of the film, it's a snooze-fest.

Visually, it is stunning. Every set piece is beautiful and seems to glow. The overall story? Well...

Kubrick died about a week after he showed the final cut to the studio. He left us some amazing art.

on how rich people attend kinky sex orgies and the implied danger of exposing them.

Yes there are people like Jeffry Epstein, but by and large the whole masked ritual cult thing is what the "rest of us" ( especially MAGA people ) imagine the the ultra rich and connected people do in private parties.

Not to say it doesn't every happen ( P. Diddy, the Italian Prime Minister and his Bunga Bunga parties...

but really there were more "key parties" in the seventies in the suburbs of America than the rich indulging in ritual sex orgies.

I didn't care for the movie. Nicole Kidman could have had a much bigger role.
