'Women of Appalachia' exhibit to hit the road
Wednesday, November 12, 2014 2:46 pm
Once again women from throughout Appalachian Ohio and West Virginia, from diverse backgrounds, ages and experiences have come together to participate in the 6th Annual Women of Appalachia (WOA) events, embrace the stereotype and show the whole woman; beyond the superficial factors that people use to judge her.
New to the project this year, the fine art exhibition and spoken word performances will travel to four different venues throughout Ohio and West Virginia over a six-month period. The season begins Saturday from 2-5 p.m. with an opening reception showcasing the fine arts exhibition, hosted by the Parkersburg Art Center, 725 Market St., Parkersburg, West Virginia...
...I am so pleased that PAC so graciously offered to host this seasons fine art opening event, allowing the work to be seen by folks in the Parkersburg area and surrounding communities, says founder/curator Kari Gunter-Seymour. Up until last year, WOA events had been hosted only in Athens. Last year PVC Artisans welcomed WOA to Chillicothe. The additional venues extend the opportunity to share the WOA mission to empower and strengthen Appalachias visual, literary and performing women artists.
In January, the exhibit will travel to the Multicultural Art Gallery, Baker University Center, on the Athens campus of Ohio University and will finish up its journey at the PVG Artisans Gallery, Chillicothe, Ohio, in May/June 2015. The sister event, Women Speak, offering outstanding juried performance in story, song and poetry, will be hosted by ARTS/West in Athens in April and PVG Artisans Gallery in May....
