Israel's security cabinet has approved a long-awaited ceasefire deal with Hamas. If finalized, the ceasefire is expected to go into effect on Sunday. "The main challenge will be the second phase, and here there are many, many problems on the horizon," says Israeli journalist Gideon Levy, who stresses the importance of also freeing the thousands of Palestinians held by Israel. "Again and again, Israelis always think that they are the only victims." The announcement comes in the final week of U.S. President Joe Biden's term as Israel prepares for the incoming Trump administration. "The only reason that Israel did not agree to this text until this week is because it didn't have to worry about U.S. pressure," says Middle East analyst Mouin Rabbani, who explains why the limited agreement will not shift politics in Israel and Palestine. "I believe Netanyahu will do everything possible, with the collusion of certain Trump officials, to try to scuttle it after the first phase."

(9,498 posts). . . and somehow, when Gaza breaks the cease-fire agreement (which they nearly certainly will), the useful idiots will find some way to blame Netanyahu. This is nothing new.

minimized that hamas started this crap by what they did on October 7, and the days after before Israel retaliated hamas and hezbolah continued to send missiles into Israel. They conveniently ignored that hamas could have ended this tragedy months ago by releasing the hostages, stopping the attacks against Israel, turning over those responsible for October 7, and getting back to the negotiating table.
Well, they screwed that up well, because they thought that the neighboring Arab neighbors would unite to destroy Israel. That didn't work out too well either.
Then there is DN's wonderful reporters who reported that the rapes, torture, and killings were "Israeli propaganda"
Of course DN's wonderful Democratic party bashing throughout the years, including the jill steins, and other jackasses encouraging people NOT to vote for Biden and then Harris.
In the 11th hour they had ONE interview editorializing that Harris would be the lesser of the "two evils"
A day late and a dollar short.
They are as bad as the "corporate media", with their own propaganda.
and as far as their independence, independence doesn't mean they don't have an agenda. It just means their funding sources are obtained through different channels.
In 2016 they helped defeat Hillary against trump and followed mostly the same script with Harris.

(96,958 posts)DN is an extremely bias source, who never present an opposing viewpoint, and their interviews are filled with anti-Israeli interviews and anti-Democratic party interviews.
But the fact is this, the criticism from DN are almost obsessively directed against Israel, and rarely against hamas. This was evident with their coverage of what happened on October 7th, and their white washing that the rapes, torture, etc. was questionable if it even happened by Jeremy Shahill. He is a disgrace
as a reporter.

(60,350 posts)any other news organization that I've seen to date.
Democracy Now covering the tragedy of Gaza; a populated region by refugees from the earlier tragedy of the Nakba from the 1940s (the world's largest open air prison) long before October 7th and I knew then along with most anyone else paying attention, that it was a pressure cooker ready to explode. Meanwhile these issues weren't even on the conglomerated corporate media's radar and the plight of the Palestinian people was largely ignored.
How would you feel if you were born and grew up in such an environment with surveillance drones flying over head 24/7? Dependent of aid from the world because you're not free.
Israel is and has been an apartheid state, even the late President Carter knew that, but he wasn't anti-Israel.
As tragic as October 7th was, history didn't start nor end on that day.

(60,350 posts)When you can point to something, anything specific, other than the fact that they have been critical of political leaders both Democrat and Republican, let me know.
In the meantime I view them as an in-depth and valuable information source even if sometimes the information or truth hurts.
