Trump remembers Pope Francis as 'a good man,' orders flags lowered to half-staff in remembrance - WBNS 10TV Ohio
Donald Trump says he signed an executive order putting U.S. flags at halfmast in recognition of the passing of Pope Francis.
"He was a good man," Trump said of the pope, who died on Monday. "He loved the world and it's an honor to do that."
Trump made the announcement in brief remarks at the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday.
He was flanked by first lady Melania Trump and a person wearing an Easter bunny costume.
Trump also thanked the National Park Service for “making everything so beautiful and spiffy,” and the first lady for organizing the egg roll.
“I’m very difficult when it comes to that,” Trump said of preparations for White House celebrations. “They have done an incredible job. You just have to look around and see.”
Trump said that Easter is one of his "favorite days," and declared that "religion is coming back to America."
