Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump, Greenland, Denmark, and Canada.

As Trump stands on what he's trying to portray as a win in Venezuela, a move which foreign policy experts, oil industry experts, and intelligence experts are saying is likely to backfire over time. He's decided to not just imply action against Cuba, Colombia, and Mexico, but he renewed statements about Greenland. He said, "We'll worry about Greenland in about 2 months." Then said, "We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security, and Denmark is not going to be able to do it. You know what Denmark did recently to boost up security in Greenland? They added one more dog sled.”

Again for the people in the back. Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, a longtime US ally and a member of NATO. This rhetoric will certainly stir anxiety within Canada as well. The Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, responded in a way that might allow Trump to get the message via social media and said, "I have to say this very directly to the USA. It makes absolutely no sense to talk about the need for the USA to take over Greenland. The USA has no right to annex one of the three countries in the Commonwealth. The Kingdom of Denmark and therefore Greenland is part of NATO and is therefore covered by the alliance's security guarantee. We already have a defense agreement between the kingdom and the USA today which gives the USA wide access to Greenland and we on the part of the kingdom have invested significantly in security in the Arctic. I would therefore strongly urge the USA to stop the threats against a historically close ally and against another country and another people who have very clearly said that they are not for sale.”

The prime minister of Greenland said, "When the president of the United States talks about we need Greenland and connects us with Venezuela and military intervention, it's not just wrong. This is so disrespectful."

As previously discussed, the damage Trump's rhetoric is causing to the US isn't going to be fixed easily. We have NATO members on edge. The US is becoming weaker by the day. It's also important to remember that the national security importance of Greenland is directly related to climate change. If you were surprised and felt played when you found out Venezuela wasn't about elicit substances or democracy and that it was about oil and minerals, wait until you find out how bad they've played you about climate change. He'll tell you it's bunk so his friends can make money, but behind closed doors, he's apparently considering annexing a country because climate change is real.

The Danish prime minister also said, "But I will also make it clear that if the US chooses to attack another NATO country militarily, then everything stops, including NATO and thus the security that has been established since the end of the Second World War.

It's important to remember the standard of living Americans feel entitled to exists because of our allies. If you think the US doesn't need its allies, name a powerful country without allies.

The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times reported, and MS NOW confirmed, that Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers in a classified briefing this week that the White House is less interested in military action and more interested in trying to buy Greenland — which, by all accounts, is not currently for sale.

On Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson brushed off the idea, telling reporters that Rubio might’ve made the comment “in jest.” The Louisiana Republican repeated the line Wednesday morning, explaining at a Capitol Hill press conference that he thinks he remembers hearing the secretary of state talk about a possible Greenland purchase, but the GOP leader said he “took it as a joke.”

Readers, it was not a joke.

Asked to clarify comments he made to lawmakers behind closed doors on Monday, Rubio told reporters late Wednesday morning that it’s “always” been Trump’s “intent” to try to buy Greenland.

Less than an hour later, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said largely the same thing, explaining during a briefing that the president is “actively” discussing the purchase of Greenland.

As policy priorities go, all of this seems plainly ridiculous. And yet it also raises a host of new and related questions: Where exactly does Trump intend to get the money to buy a massive arctic island that isn’t for sale? Is he going to ask Congress to appropriate the funds? Would GOP lawmakers be willing to write an enormous check?

And how embarrassed is the House speaker right now after his “took it as a joke” line has been publicly discredited by his ostensible allies?

I was also wondering how trump will get Congress to give him the funds to buy Greenland.
