Justice Department struggles as thousands exit—and few are replaced

The Justice Department has lost thousands of experienced attorneys since the start of the Trump administration and has backfilled a fraction of the open jobs, with the process snarled by a lack of qualified candidates, bureaucratic delays and hiring freezes, according to people familiar with hirings in the department.

Last year, roughly 10,000 attorneys worked across the Justice Department and its components, including the FBI. Justice Connection, an advocacy group that has been tracking departures, estimates that around 5,500 people—not all of them attorneys—have quit the department, been fired or taken a buyout offered by the Trump administration.

The department did not provide a breakdown of attorney departures, but officials did not deny that widespread vacancies exist.

The department’s struggle to fill vacancies reflects a dramatic shift for a law enforcement agency that has long attracted high-performing alumni from the nation’s top-ranked law schools and law firms.

And that number is hard to verify. In terms of attorneys. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It appears that you may be the victim of gaslighting. Because that number is accurate.

Our current criminal DOJ is diminished by the principled stances taken by an astonishingly high number of attorneys who have either quit or been preemptively fired. And we're a better country for their sacrifices.

At the very least, you're a victim of bad information. Please reconsider your decision. The number is correct.

I did not say the number was incorrect. I said it was “hard to believe.” It’s clearly out of context. I’m offended to see such cheap headlines here on DU, as I know many others are as well, but apparently blocking the forum has not completely protected me.

The click-bait headline implies that 3,000 have just resigned en masse- that’s the BAIT. Of course, we certainly know this is not a FACT.

Although you have disparaged me about ChatGpt I’m not interested in debating that with you, either. You do (scholarly)you.

Suggesting I have been “Gaslit” is over the top. Way too much drama and judgement of another DUer. Please stop.

Effects we see as evidenced in this thread of the effectiveness of the regime's propaganda, gaslighting, and Trump’s pathological lying.

Reminds me of 1984... eyes and ears... something, something. Maybe you can find the exact quote.

We clearly have a problem that is going to be very hard to solve if we don't believe that we have the best interests of others in focus as our primary concern.

And even though we don't always agree, I hope you know that I love you no less than anyone else here. Maybe more, because you're willing to debate and you bring the receipts.

😉💞

For those reading along here, I'm sharing this very useful graphic that I found on gaslighting.
