Reagan was on track to be re-elected and I wanted out of this country ASAP.
I traveled to London to be interviewed by American International Schools. https://www.isbi.com/international-schools/american.php
I had my teaching certificate. I had a master's degree in teaching. I read, spoke, and understood French, Spanish, German, and Italian.
And I was hired to teach in such a school in Zurich, Switzerland.
Zurich! Mentally, I was packing my bags!
My plan was to teach a few years, apply for dual-citizenship, and finally, relinquish my American citizenship, and spend the rest of my life in Switzerland. No Reagan, no problem.
And wouldn't you know, in June, I was "un-hired". Not because of anything wrong with me. I was advised by the head of the School(s) that because of a decline in Swiss employment, they were compelled to hire a Swiss teacher. Obviously, I didn't quality in that regard.
But I understood and hoped that maybe in a year, I would be reconsidered.
Yes, I still waiting (not as much obviously), but I understand their policy. I would have been an H1B equivalent in this case, taking a job from an otherwise qualified Swiss teacher.
