Has Furniture Gotten Worse? We Tested It. - More Perfect Union

If you have ever bought a Wayfair couch or tried to assemble an IKEA anything, you know furniture sucks now. Fast furniture has taken over — meaning cheap quality for customers and low wages for workers. Meanwhile, companies like IKEA and Wayfair are raking in huge profits.

interior decorating business. My wife has noted the drop in quality all over and particularly notes the shoddy quality/build of furniture from wayfair. The goods at pottery barn, crate and barrel, have gone down as well. Gotta be private equity.
I've never expected high quality from IKEA though. Always seemed like college furniture to me.

One of which imported antique case goods from Europe. The upholstery all came from High Point. All solid, well made furniture.

I don't own a single piece of furniture that contains particle board which is toxic because they contain formaldehyde. Many of my things are hand me downs from my grandparents.

Thanks for the great video...it brought back memories, TT.

is a big deal now for retailers. Items in the boxes must be aired out for specified periods before being made available for sale.

See, wasn't that fun?

I received a generous gift of a recliner in a box from Costco that is only now, a month and a half later, tolerable to even be in the same room with it without an asthma attack.

And it stank like hell.

are built in a way that makes repair very difficult. They aren't constructed to be disassembled. Repairs, assuming parts are even available, would be too expensive. Voila! Another sale and another item in the landfill.

products are being made to make actually fixing them very difficult if not impossible, to make people need to replace them

yes, it is wreaking havoc on landfills

it is just plain WRONG
