9. It was awful:

I had to open the store at 7:00 yesterday morning and five minutes before I had to go on the floor, I glanced at Facebook. (Sam and his wife, Barbara are my Friends.)

And Barbara posted an hour previously, announcing that Sam had passed away around 2:30.

Of course, it was all I could do to work the next seven hours with that knowledge.

I had spoken to Sam not even 36 hours prior. He was in rehab, getting both physical and occupational therapy.

Tragically he contracted Covid and died of pneumonia.

I used to listen to him on WEVD in NY. You're right - great progressive and amazing sense of humor - also very compasionate, if I remember correctly.
