The Way Forward
Related: About this forumcan i make a small plea here?
and i dont mean to question moderation, just a plea to my fellow members whose still have hope for the future, misguided tho it may be-
can we keep the doom and gloom to a minimum in here?
we have the whole rest of the site for that.

(62,197 posts)The truth must first be seen in stark and honest terms.
Yes it is good to have some hope and optimism.
But unless people accept that we are in a very dire situation
and plan accordingly, the plans are totally worthless.
People in denial do not make the best plans.
mopinko
(72,130 posts)im just seeing good ideas shot down here out of despair.
ppl in despair dont make good plans, either.

(62,197 posts)All ideas no matter how ridiculous they may sound should be discussed.
Then the pros and cons of each idea should also be discussed.
I come from a US Air Force family.
Pilots and air crews are given extensive training on how to deal with emergencies.
You stay calm, in control, in your head.
You weigh it all up and make the best cost benefit ratio decision.
You can emotionally fall apart later.
I also am a retired mental health professional with extensive training and experience
in handling serious crisis situations. You stay calm, professional, in your head and do your
job so everyone stays alive.
But most people are civilians with no training. And are all over the map.
Either pie in the sky or dooms day.
But I do not like telling people how to think or feel.
We have to meet people where they are and bring them along.
This is what is called leadership.

(26,021 posts)You posted under the way forward.
Was I wrong to have posted about Trump firing 17 Inspector Generals last night in violation of federal law?
Should Democrats ignore it, minimize it, or take action against what Trump did?
What is your way forward to stopping Trump, or do you believe we should ignore what he does and when our country is in ashes maybe there will be an incentive to return to our democratic Constitutional Republic.
Maybe minimizing what is happening is the way to go, I am asking?

(72,130 posts)heres a thread w a practical suggestion-
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1324723
no 1 idea or person will do anything. and frankly, we can try to get stuff into court, but the best that will bring is delay, legally. but its a chance to play it out in public.
we need leaders, plural. many voices, singing the same song.
again, this is just 1 forum.

Unless we figure out how to fight back, that is never going to happen.

So are you saying that those interested in a resistance shouldn't be on the Way Forward forum?
I would be thrilled if there were a "Resistance Forum", but that is not my decision. I believe that is up to EarlG.
Meanwhile, shouldn't the discussions of how to resist be just as entitled to exist on the Way Forward forum, as the discussions about hopeful ideas if there is ever a "real" election again?
Agree whole heartedly.

(33 posts)I have so much going on in my heart and head. I want to add to the discussion not cause angst. I agree with poster but am afraid to say too much for fear of causing conflict. I understand the fear, anger, and sadness being felt cause I feel it to.
I want to search and find common positive ground. I am not religious but found bishop Budd's calm and gentle approach healing. I have to believe we achieve more through positive strength than through giving in to our fear and anger.
Hopefully what I have said is helpful and not harmful. We are all in a place of vulnerability with raw nerves that are easily triggered. We all need kindness and gentle care right now.

She's suggesting we keep the doom and gloom out of this forum as much as possible.
Toss in all kinds of ideas here; then we discuss them as to their merits (or not).

(34,974 posts)maybe if they don't like this one, they could post in others.
I just bristle at folks telling others how to post. Is this really how to spend our time while our fellow Americans are being hunted down in the streets and being put on planes to be deported? Because that is our reality now whether we like it or not.
electric_blue68
(19,573 posts)And many, if not most of us here know the kind of shit going, or about to go down.
Now, we may not know everything that's going on at any one time, but that's one reason we come here to catch up on the news: bad, and good!
I live in a Hispanic neighborhood, not my first either. I dread that I might see some ICE stuff going like a block or 2 away. I even know (but not near me, I pass it if I'm going to a certain area) a church where immigrants were given help during drumphf's first term.

I am sorry you're in a neighborhood that is already feeling threats, I am near Houston and know that feeling.

I can read a one-liner and get the gist because it has all been written years ago.
Deport people? The Nazis did that until they found it was more efficient to just kill them.
Hell on Earth: Who were the victims killed by the Nazis in Auschwitz?
January 27 marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the notorious Nazi extermination camp in Poland.
