...person on the "left" who goes anywhere near the kind of rhetoric we all experience on a daily basis from MAGA politicians and their media apparatus. And it's been going on for at least three decades, and arguably a lot longer.

Your point about all the political scandals and criming (Iran-Contra, etc.) seems to be part of the DU zeitgeist these days, to use an overused word. It keeps coming up in discussions. Here's a post from this week.
