8. There's a historical resentment of "The Government" in US history

but the last 45 years - since Reagan, as with many problems - has seen a concerted, sustained propaganda campaign that is anti-Federal and makes out the government to be the problem. It's almost become conventional wisdom that The Government is not made up of people, at least not like you and me, and is nothing but a vast army of overzealous, over-regulating, money-sucking parasites.
