For End Timers it's to do with Armageddon, the final battle between good and evil which will be fought in the Middle East, so the current global events fit the framework. It may even be spreading into the military.

here is a quote from a recent Guardian article:

"US military commanders have been invoking extremist Christian rhetoric about biblical “end times” to justify involvement in the Iran war to troops, according to complaints made to a watchdog group."
