5. Independents are not all "moderates"

The data I have seen, including Pew Research surveys with sample sizes in the tens of thousands, show that the majority of moderates (and actually all Americans) support progressive policies when they aren’t identified with a particular party.

This includes sensible gun control laws, as well MFA, reproductive rights, LGBT rights, raising the minimum wage and raising taxes in billionaires.

The only consistent exceptions are the narrow wedge issue of trans teens in sports and immigration, although opinions on the latter have changed significantly over the past year.
