15. World Cup host cities should take a lesson here

Say you’re Foxborough. You require tons of money from FIFA and the US government to pay for security and other stuff. Neither has come through yet.

Many fans won’t be able to come. Others will refuse to. Same with the teams.

Trump’s administration promises players, coaches and team personnel will be granted special status to enter the country but nobody believes his promises. Put that together with FIFA’s corruption and incompetence, the Cup is shaping up to be a disaster.

If I was a host city elected official I’d worry about how voters will feel if the games turn out to be a failure, as they threaten to be. Foxbourough seems to be pretty skeptical. This can’t be reassuring news.
