Wealth Gospel, disputing the Pope, lots of nonsense about a personal relationship with God - this is all essentially Calvinist dogma invading Conservative Catholic thought. JD Vance's "Catholicism" is unrecognizable; so is Ross Douthat's for that matter. Vance in particular is more or less a Southern Baptist who recites the Nicene Creed. Douthat at least pretends to some nostalgic pre-Vatican II Catholicism.
