Dick&W just collapsed completely. Everyone knew whomever won the Dem nomination was going to win POTUS and Obama just beat Hillary by a little. He got his shoulders in front of her and they kept the same pace to the end of the primaries. The Kennedy family endorsement cemented it.

Dick&W were exposed as having lied us into a war and managed it horribly, completely failed after Katrina, and then in September the bottom dropped out of the economy. Even before the Great Recession the writing was on the wall.

Obama did have a truly incredible campaign and was a fantastic candidate which was required to get HIM elected.
