(32,660 posts)21. I'm doing OK. Retired, but SSI covers all of my monthly expenses.
No credit card balances. Mortgage is under $600/mo. No water bill. I invested in solar panels 5 years ago, so my power bill is $35/month. No truck payment. I fill up about once a month. As I age, I seem to eat less, so my grocery bills are manageable.
My kids are doing well financially, so no drain there.
If SSI gets cut in the future, I'll have some financial assets to lean on.
I couldn't imagine what life would be like with the economic mess we are living with if I had a young family to care for today.

My credit cards were both up to the limit. I had to take money out of my now very meager retirement account.

Living paycheck to paycheck. Social security checks. Maxed out credit cards.

We're doing okay. We're people of modest means with modest taste. I'm sure glad my husband is still

I retired nearly 9 yrs ago. I did all of the shopping for two then and now and pay all bills.
