New Mexico's Zorro Ranch 'truth commission' announces 14 subpoenas

The Santa Fe Institute could be forced to hand over information on its links to Jeffrey Epstein under a subpoena from a legislative commission investigating Zorro Ranch.

The prestigious scientific research center in Santa Fe is among 14 public and private institutions the state House of Representatives’ truth commission plans to subpoena, the panel announced during a public hearing Monday, when it approved the subpoenas.

Other entities on the list include the FBI, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, the New Mexico Governor’s Office, the Department of Public Safety and the State Land Office, said state Rep. Andrea Romero, D-Santa Fe, who is chairing the truth commission.

No individuals will be subpoenaed in this initial round.

John Heil, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, which also faces a subpoena, said the agency hasn’t been served yet, but “we would comply to the extent we can under the law.”
