would make him toxic. The problem could be that between people up in the Senate, especially Collins(me), Husted (oh) and Sullivan(ak) and people like Cassidy, Cronyn and Tillis who Trump has no further leverage over that he should fail - completely independent of McConnell and Graham's empty seat.

McConnell is in rehab, which is very likely in DC. If so, he can be helped in, as Strom Thurman and later Ted Kennedy were, to cast an important vote. (Here, I suspect more likely it gives him an excuse to avoid a toxic vote.) As to the SC vote, the governor should quickly make that appointment. I know nothing about the governor, but he is likely to be a Trumper. So dependent on timing of the appointment and the vote, the SC seat may not be any different as far as the vote goes.

For any Senator up for for reelection, the Democratic opponent should be able to characterize a vote for Blanche as covering up the Epstein Network. If the Republicans really make the effort to ram him through it will possibly cost them the Senate.
