States Set to Sue Monday Over Paramount-Warner Bros. Deal [View all]

A group of about a dozen states is poised to sue Monday to block Paramount Skydance Corp. from buying Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., according to a person familiar with the matter.

The antitrust lawsuit is set to be filed in federal court, said the person, who asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Bloomberg previously reported that top lawyers for several states were drafting a legal challenge to the $110 billion deal.

The deal would combine two of the five largest US film studios: Warner Bros., the second-largest by box office receipts after Walt Disney Co., with No. 5 Paramount. The transaction would leave leave David Ellison, son of Oracle Corp. co-founder Larry Ellison, in charge of two major news networks – CBS and CNN – and two of the largest streaming services, Paramount+ and HBO Max.
