N.J. congressman in ICU after gallbladder infection leads to sepsis [View all]

U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross is recovering from a gallbladder infection that progressed to sepsis, his doctor said Tuesday.

Norcross, D-1st Dist., underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder and is being treated for the infections, said Dr. Eric Kupersmith, chief physician executive at Cooper University Health Care.

“Congressman Norcross is responding well to treatment, but faces an extended recovery that could require physical rehabilitation,” Kupersmith said.

Norcross, 66, was taken to the hospital on April 7 after he experienced a medical episode on a flight, his office said.
