Brainwashing and propaganda is going on nonstop and has been for decades. People are brainwashed into thinking that unions are bad. People are brainwashed into thinking that insurance like Social Security and the ACA are forms of socialism and thus bad.
As for the current election cycle, let's not forget the sane washing of 45 that went on. He talked gibberish but the media would make it sound like he had policy positions.
They held Kamala to a different standard.
