House Republican leaders have reportedly canceled scheduled votes after a dispute among GOP lawmakers disrupted legislative proceedings. The disruption threatened two crucial bills aimed at limiting federal judges’ powers and requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration. The procedural vote failed when nine Republicans joined Democrats.

The House has not voted on the No Rogue Rulings Act or the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, both vital for the GOP agenda. The cancellation has raised concerns about leadership’s next steps, particularly regarding the proposed proxy voting legislation.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) opposed the procedure on constitutional grounds, but the procedural vote has been defeated, halting key legislative action. Johnson stated, “It’s a very disappointing result on the floor there, a handful of Republicans joined with all Democrats to take down a rule.”
