7. Para Entonces - For then.

I want to die when the day declines,
on the high sea, with my face to the sky;
where agony may seem like a dream,
and the soul, a bird that takes flight on high.

To hear, in those final fleeting moments,
with only the sky and the sea around,
no voices, no sobbing prayers of lament,
but the solemn crash of the waves resound.

To die when the light, in sorrow, withdraws
its golden nets from the green-tinted tide,
and be like that sun that slowly dissolves:
something bright and radiant, yet lost in time.

To die—and young—before life’s cruel hand
destroys the garland of grace I bear;
while life still whispers: “I am yours,”
though we both know that she lies.
