You nailed the eyes, that inquisitive, what-the-heck-are-you-doing expression pups give us all the time. Also the sheen on the black coat. Like his/her nails peeking out from beneath the paws. Makes me want to jump into the frame and give the pupper a hug.
Your sister's friend should be thrilled with the result. I'm impressed that this is your first animal portrait.
