His most moving performance was in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" in which he and Kirk are on trial by the Klingons, accused of assassinating one of their diplomats. McCoy's anguish that he wasn't able to save the diplomat's life because he didn't know Klingon anatomy was palpable, and tear-inducing. Like all good medical providers, he wanted to save the life of a living being, enemy or not.
