The cartoons we had may not have been poorly-disguised toy commercials, but almost all of them came with Victorian-Era levels of moralizing and paternalistic didactics. So many cartoons ended with a live-action coda in which the star voice actor recited 'You kids need to know...' PSA's.

We were also lucky enough to have some very good live-action programming to enjoy. A lot of it (The Land Of The Lost, Space Academy, and so on) was dreck, But there was also Ark II, and later in the 1970's, Hot Hero Sandwich, a variety show series that was so good, my parents used to watch it with us.
