1. Are you sure what you got was a sample ballot?

Neither the City nor Cook County mails out sample ballots. The only way to get one is by going to the Chicago Board of Elections website, typing in your last name and address, and if you are fully registered, you can download your sample ballot.

Maybe what you got was a sample of who to vote for put out by a group--say, Cook County Democratic Party or another group that has made endorsements. I've not received one of those things yet for the primary, but I have in the past--more like cheat sheets for the candidates they have endorsed. And that's perfectly legit ... not a "dirty trick." Take a look at it again. (PS: I don't think Cook County Dems have made a presidential endorsement: they have made endorsements for States Atty, Water Reclamation District, and some judges.)
