State Senate passes bill that would cut funding to Planned Parenthood [View all]

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Government funding would be cut off to Planned Parenthood affiliates in Kentucky under legislation that passed the state Senate on Wednesday.

Senate Bill 8 would create funding tiers for money coming into Kentucky for family planning through the federal Public Health Service Act so that entities providing comprehensive primary and preventative health services, along with family planning services, would be first in line.

“This would place Planned Parenthood, which does not provide comprehensive health services, at the back of the line for federal family planning dollars,” said state Sen. Max Wise, the Campbellsville Republican who sponsored the bill.

The bill passed 31-6 and now heads to the House for consideration.
