Louisiana's U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins says he'd shoot armed protesters in Facebook post [View all]
As Lafayette residents protest the police killing of a Black man, former deputy and U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins threatened to shoot armed protesters in a social media post that included a picture of Black militia members.
Higgins, the former St. Landry Parish deputy whose congressional district includes Lafayette, posted the threat on Facebook on Tuesday night as protesters gathered outside a council meeting in Lafayette. Facebook later removed the post.
In the post, which featured a picture of armed Black militia members from a Louisville protest, Higgins said if armed protesters showed up, they would be considered a "real threat" in Louisiana.
"Me? I wouldn't even spill my beer. I'd drop any 10 of you where you stand,' Higgins wrote. "We don't care what color you are. We don't care if you're left or right. If you show up like this, if we recognize threat...you won't walk away."
