4. In December, 1987 some three feet of snow

got dumped along the Front Range in Colorado. We were living in Golden at the time, got the full three feet, and the snow removal in that city was impressive. The first day the main streets were plowed just enough for two lanes of traffic. I think it only took that city three days to clear the snow off every single street quite thoroughly. The same snowstorm Denver couldn't begin to handle what was really much less accumulation because they are somewhat east of the mountains. Whoever was then mayor was booted out of office as soon as possible, if I recall correctly. And if I'm wrong about that, it certainly made him quite unpopular, although I can't recall the name this long after.
