Snow Patrol Just How Much Snow Has Massachusetts Gotten Lately? [View all]

Gov. Charlie Baker briefed the media on the latest snowpocalypse and drove home just how much white stuff the commonwealth has gotten lately with this little nugget: Mass. plows have already moved enough snow this winter to fill the 1.9 million-square-foot Gillette Stadium 90 times. It's like some sort of Super Bowl of snowfalls.

Boston looking for ideas on snow disposal

So far, to clear away the snow that’s been dumped on Boston by the latest storms, workers have utilized special snow-melting machines that vaporize the white powder and reduce it to water at a rate of 400 tons per hour.

Officials have also been stockpiling snow at five “snow farms,” which are essentially vacant lots. Walsh has also contacted state environmental leaders about dumping snow into the harbor, if necessary, as yet another storm approaches Thursday.
Discuss: What should be done with the snow?

With few other options, McGilpin said anyone with an innovative idea, product, or approach should get in touch.

Walsh’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, which describes itself as a civic innovation group under the mayor’s administration, forms partnerships with residents, educators, and entrepreneurs, seeking to solve common problems and improve city life and services.

New storms coming Saturday-Sunday. Up to a foot. It has been frigid here. The snow is not melting. Roofs are collapsing.

More Snow On The Way For New England

BOSTON (AP) — Just as southern New England residents finished digging out from the latest storm, forecasters say more snow is on the way.

The region, which has already had record snowfall, saw a dusting of snow Wednesday and can expect more light snowfall Thursday just in time for the evening commute, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow should taper off early Friday morning, bringing Cape Cod up to 4 inches and around 2 inches elsewhere in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and parts of Connecticut.

Forecasters are watching a more potent storm that could dump higher amounts over the Valentine's Day weekend. The weather service says it's too early to say how much that might ultimately bring, but the Saturday to Sunday storm could bring "plowable snow."
