The woman accused of hitting and killing an 80-year-old woman using a walker and then fleeing the scene allegedly told police she left the scene because she had a job interview, prosecutors told a judge yesterday.
Ashley Monturio, 41, of Pembroke, MA, was arraigned in Cambridge District Court yesterday on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. She pleaded not guilty. She was released on personal recognizance and ordered to surrender her drivers license.
The killed woman, identified as Romelia Gallardo, was walking with her wheeled walker when she was hit near her senior housing complex in Cambridge. Prosecutors said Monturio was leaving the parking lot at 150 Erie St. in Cambridge when she hit Gallardo.
According to prosecutors, Monturio initially stopped, got out to check, called 911 to say someone was hurt and told the dispatcher she had a job interview and couldnt stay before leaving the scene. Monturios attorney, while not addressing the specifics of the case,
said his client is deeply saddened and very apologetic.
