1. I don't think a closed primary disenfranchises people.

I think the real problem is people are ignorant of the whole political process. Parties nominate candidates then we have general elections. That’s where everybody votes. Nothing is stopping people from registering with a party. It’s not a commitment and it doesn’t cost anything
