Although my background is in math and chemistry, I did attend a liberal arts university and was also interested in history and social justice. I also worked on tort reform as a statistician and knew people at nearly all of the state agencies so it provided plenty of background as to how underserved the social service problems are in Texas. Throw in some additional life experiences and I can say that I rubbed elbows with those at the top of society along with those at the other end. It lends some humility and some perspective.
