A Gettysburg man tried to kill the person who found him lying outside a local home Thursday morning, Pennsylvania State Police said. A man driving down Carriage Lane in Mount Pleasant Township between Bonneauville and Gettysburg spotted 40-year-old William L. Knotts around 10 a.m. lying in the yard of a home on the streets first block, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
When the victim stopped to check on Knotts, the 40-year-old said
You really pissed me off, Im mad. Im gonna kill you,
The affidavit said Knotts sat up and fired two rounds from a Smith & Wesson revolver at the victim, who dashed behind his car for cover. The incident was reportedly captured on nearby surveillance cameras. A female Carriage Lane resident also told state police she looked out her window when she heard gunshots and saw a shaggy-haired man in his 40s walking away from the scene, according to the affidavit.
Bonneauville Borough police took Knotts into custody around 10:15 a.m., the affidavit said. State police charged him with attempted homicide and simple assault. According to online court records, Knotts is being held at the Adams County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
