The Texas GQP wants to be where Abbott and his predecessors ("W" Bush, Rick Perry) have lead it since 1994. They made it acceptable to embrace your worst self and once that becomes acceptable it is very easy, sort of addictive, and that is where the party is. It has become primarily a white grievance party.
