Houston!
("...off the Wayside Drive..." )
I have first hand experience!
My first run in with these things was way back in the 1970s at the Houston produce market. Seriously, folks, WASH YOUR VEGGIES! I saw them on the dock right after the dock mgr showed me a box of three week old kittens he just found and rounded up. I recall thinking that those roaches could have individually carted off one of those kittens without issue.
After the 100lbs bags of spuds were unloaded and the lumpers stole my loadlocks, my husband and I were watching teevee, chilling in our room which had a large dresser with a large mirror upon which some of our clothes were piled. Something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye, I looked, and to my horror there was this dinosaur sized roach traversing the terrain of our clothes silhouetted in the mirror.
Upon pointing this out to my husband, he jumped up and threw it outside having captured it in his hat. As I was trying to stop cringing my spouse, slamming the door shut, turns to me and in his best Texan assumed drawl barks, "Thats how come we got them pointy toed boots, we call 'em cockroach killers! You get 'em in a corner and... Damn, that one woulda took a few stabs." To which I nearly died laughing.
I was glad to get the hell out of there and tried to avoid going that far south in Texas again. EEeeewwww!
