Texas drought hits Enchanted Rock, causes water conservation effort [View all]

Snip

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area began water conservation procedures and, sorry folks, visitors will feel a sting if they're needing to use the restroom. On January 1, the park made the choice to close all restrooms during daylight hours, which forces visitors to use the Porta Potties at the Summit Trailhead and in the campground for the foreseeable future, according to a Facebook post.

“The staff at Enchanted Rock thank you in advance for your understanding as we work to better conserve our most precious resource," the post read.

The water conservation means the headquarters building won't have visitor restrooms due to "mechanical failure." The Comfort Station restrooms are also closed, so hikers using the Summit Trail will have to use the Porta Potties at the trailhead. Showers are for campers only and will be available from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.

The park is also urging visitors to bring their own water. MySA reached out to Texas Parks and Wildlife to get a comment on what the water conservation measure means for the park.
