Vermont is past its peak, state says, as it releases more detailed town data [View all]

The state’s latest data shows that Vermont is now past its peak of active cases, a sign that community spread will continue to decline, according to a model released at a press conference Friday.

Commissioner Michael Pieciak of the Department of Financial Regulation said social distancing measures showed that Vermonters were complying with state rules. “We continue to attribute these better-than-expected outcomes to Vermonters’ adherence to social distancing and hygiene guidance,” he said.

The model was part of a monthlong trend of Vermont’s Covid-19 cases performing better than expected under several researchers’ models of the future of the virus in Vermont. The state also has a better “doubling rate” — the amount of time it takes for the number of cases to double — than any other state in New England, Pieciak said.

“This is a good reminder of the challenges our neighbors are continuing to confront, and the importance of self quarantining when those are coming to stay here in Vermont,” Pieciak said.
