UK Vote of No Confidence - Joe Blogs [View all]

Labour collapsing to third place in Gorton & Denton is a shock result — but this wasn’t just a vote of no confidence in Labour.

This by-election highlights a much broader shift in UK politics.

The Conservatives were almost wiped out, the Liberal Democrats failed to gain traction, and while Reform UK surged into second place, they still couldn’t convert that momentum into a win. Instead, voters turned to the Green Party — a party that, until recently, held just a single seat in Parliament.

What makes this result even more significant is that turnout barely changed compared to the 2024 General Election. Voters didn’t stay at home — they actively switched away from the traditional parties.

This suggests something deeper is happening.

There is growing dissatisfaction across the political spectrum, with voters rejecting not just Labour, but the established political system as a whole. At the same time, this result raises questions about whether Reform UK can truly break through and win seats, or whether voters are still hesitant to fully back them.

In this video, I break down:
• The full results and vote swings
• Why Labour’s vote collapsed
• Why Reform couldn’t win despite strong momentum
• Why the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats were squeezed out
• Why voters turned to the Green Party instead
• What this means for the future of UK politics

Is this a one-off protest vote — or a sign that UK politics is entering a new phase?
