Yes, mice are cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. My preference is for an HP or Microsoft wired mouse. It's worth paying a little extra. Nothing fancy - no extra buttons.

Something you can try; grab a can of compressed air - sometimes called an air duster. Give the red light on the bottom of your mouse a blow out. There may be a bit of dirt trapped in there. Without knowing your operating system, you can also look up 'Mouse' in settings and the old control panel if you still have access. You can slow down the speed of pointer travel, click speed etc.

In Win 10 and 11 there are some extra input controls under Accessibility in Settings.
