How much stuff do you have running in the background? It sounds like your computer is struggling to locate and attach the file, and it may not be the fault of an email program at all.

Open your task manager and find the menu on the left side. Go to the start up apps tab and it will show you all the programs that are running - and eating up memory and CPU cycles. You may be surprised.
