I like the concept of Newt as performance artist.

I wonder if his position in that debate was chosen as the one that gave him the maximum chance of winning. He spoke first and quickly claimed most of the middle ground - even using some points that Kerry had used often in 2004. A less capable or less knowledgeable debater would have been completely blown off center - with most prepared points immediately made useless. As it was, Kerry pushed him further to add the concession that it was urgent.

I do like seeing the angry SBVT reaction to Newt - they know they lied - an action that should follow them for the rest of their lives. It will serve them right if they are rejected by more of the Conservatives than just Newt.

I do hope that Newt can control his anger enough that the story is Romney's willingness to put so much money behind negative ads (and I think his distortion of Obama was worse than anything they did to Newt) rather than Newt's anger.
