diesel-electric submarines at the beginning of Operation Epstein Fury.

Those boats were useless in the Hormuz Strait anyway, because they are big seagoing craft that can't operate in the tight shallow confines of the strait. Neither can our multi-billion $ nuclear submarines, which would not risk entering and getting trapped in the Gulf anyway.

But, it is likely, if not probable, that Iran's very quiet Ghadir class midget subs, which are specifically designed to be deployed in the Strait, are off Kharg Island sitting on the bottom ultra-quiet waiting for the assault ships ferrying the Marine to enter the battlefield of the Persian Gulf. Iran has about 15 of these boats armed with lethal torpedoes and/or they lay mines and create grave uncertainty.

Hopefully I'm wrong. We'll know soon.
