2. Maybe you need to stretch out on the couch?

But then she might choose the floor if you do.

Could be, though, that your height compared to hers really is the problem in the day time and she just didn't feel like snuggling this afternoon.

I used to get on my hands and knees to do interactive play with Ember when she was a kitten. (I do it standing up now.) She loved interactive play and still does. That's Ember's idea of being close in the day time. She is not a lap cat. The only time that she cuddles is at night or in the daytime if I lie down on the couch for a nap. She is strictly a horizontal cuddler.

Doing things together is her idea of sharing quality time. Maybe it's because she is an only cat, but I've read that some cats crave human interaction in place of snuggling. Tossing things for her to chase, kicking aluminum foil balls around the floor, using the laser light, blowing bubbles for her to swat at, peeking around a corner at her (to initiate hide and seek ambush games) - Ember thrives on those kinds of activities.

When I am seated at my desk, she does hop onto it so that we are at the same level, and rubs my face while purring. Or she will sprawl on the arm of the couch when I sit there to watch a movie. But she will not sit in my lap and does not like being held.

Every cat has their preferences. Carys will show you hers.
