might not insist on taking her. i’ve known them to let them stay, but take a report so that the owners can contact you.
lotsa lost pet posts on a couple fb pages i follow and notify animal control is always the advice. both in chgo and in my suburban hometown. they’re usually happy not to have to care for the animal.. but animal control is 1 of the 1st places ppl will look.
and if it has a chip, they’ll make sure it gets home. folks usually have good things to say when there’s a reunion.

maybe check some local fb pages, and just ask about experience w locals.
there’s a lot of good ppl doing that work. dont assume.
