I am one who usually get a new cat almost immediately, as it is the only thing that seems to salve the searing grief. I never regard a new family member as a replacement, because that is not possible. Rather, we consider them as successors.

It gives the free-floating love for the departed pet a new place to anchor.

One of our vets said the very best way to honor a departed pet is by providing the same loving home to a new animal as you provided to the predecessor.
